First Responders

ABOUT US

OUR MISSION

The all-volunteer San Jacinto County First Responders (SJCFR) mission is to render professional emergency medical care to the citizens of our county until an ambulance arrives and transports. We work alongside our county fire departments on fire and rescue scenes. Additionally, the SJCFR provides medical coverage for various community events, educational visits to schools/churches, and offers classes on CPR, Stop the Bleed, and First Aid.

Calling 911 and the First Responder’s Responsibility

Calling 911 can be one of the most nerve wracking experiences, but when you or a loved one is in trouble, you trust first responders to act in a timely and competent manner. In fact, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) have a responsibility to their community to do so, as they are on the front lines. Once the call for assistance reaches the responder, to the moment the patient is transferred to the hospital, EMS are held responsible.

In Texas, first responders refers to peace officers, paramedics, firefighters, detention officers, county jailers, and emergency medical service employees.

A First Responder’s duties include:
  • Securing the area
  • Providing emergency aid
  • Preserving evidence
  • Evaluating the situation
  • Cordoning off the scene
  • Interviewing witnesses
  • Briefing investigators
